Trifolium pratense
Red Clover (Trifolium pretense) is a perennial ground cover grass plant that can grow up to 2 ft tall. It’s flowering period is from May to September, during which you will see a widespread filed of beautiful deep pink flowers. The flowers are distinctive in that they are dome-shaped clusters made of bilateral symmetrical pink flowers. These flowers are great for bee and butterfly populations. Red Clover is also a great Nitrogen fixing plant which thrives in well-drained soil but can tolerate nutritionally poor soil. However, it is a sun loving plant, and will not tolerate shade, which is why it is great for establishing as a cover crop in a rotational crop field.
