Santiam Water Control District
Description
The Santiam Water Control District was organized under Chapter 553 of the Oregon Revised Statute in 1954 after the purchase of the Willamette Valley Water Company.
The District currently delivers irrigation water for over 17,000 acres and provides service to over 450 patrons. This water is also utilized for various purposes such as fish propagation, wildlife habitat and wetland maintenance. SWCD also delivers water to two hydroelectric plants and provides municipal water to the city of Stayton, OR.
SWCD operates and maintains over 90 miles of open ditches and canals as well as approximately 14 miles of irrigation pipeline. The District also operates and maintains fish screens, several dams, and multiple headgates within its boundaries.
Santiam Water Control District acts as the single largest diversion from the water reservoir system of 13 dams owned and operated by the Army Corps. of Engineers. Of these dams, the Detroit dam and reservoir makes up the primary source of water for the District.

| Business License | The District holds three primary certificates: 68662, 68663 and 68665. The water rights allow 2.5 acre feet of water at a rate of 5.6 gallons per minute (GPM) per acre. Together these certificates provide water for 14,981.00 acres, Pond Maintenance for 11.5 acres and Wildlife use of 16.8 acres. The District delivers many other smaller rights that help make up the total water delivered. Many of these smaller rights are held by the District and others are held by individual land owners. |
