Beaked hazelnut is a hardy, deciduous multi-stemmed large shrub or small tree that has beautiful yellow leaves in fall. It produces edible nuts that are an important first food of native people and valuable for wildlife. Wind-pollinated catkins occur from mid-winter to early spring. It is an excellent shrub for wildlife habitat.
