Beavers and their habitats provide numerous benefits for ecosystems and communities. They can also cause conflicts on working lands, roadways, and urban areas. Jean-Paul Zagarola will discuss how the Mid-Willamette Beaver Partnership is developing tools to restore beneficial beaver habitat and resources for people in the region to better co-exist with beavers while mitigating their negative impacts.
Jean-Paul A. Zagarola – Senior Program Manager for the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Jean-Paul has been supporting conservation and restoration efforts in Oregon since 2012. Jean-Paul cultivates diverse collaboratives to address complex socio-ecological problems and has a history of leveraging technical expertise, partnerships and funding opportunities to support small non-profits and Tribes in their conservation work in the Willamette Valley and other regions of the state. Today, Jean-Paul is focused on strategies that mitigate the impacts of climate change on ecosystems and communities through beaver-based restoration and wildfire resilience actions. When not at the office or exploring beavery creeks and wetlands, Jean-Paul likes to enjoy the recreational and culinary bounty the Willamette Basin has to offer with his wife and two furry children.
