Hairy Honeysuckle

Lonicera hispidula

An attractive vine that can be trained on a trellis or as a groundcover, with small, fuzzy purplish leaves and delicate pink flowers. The tubular flowers attract hummingbirds and sphinx moths. The leaves closest to the flowers are fused around the stem, giving the flowers a unique backdrop. Blooms spring to mid-summer,  then produces ornamental red berries which are devoured by birds. Tolerates seasonal flooding.
