First Friday: Street Tree Selection

December 2, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free
a graphic with tree leaves and the title: First Friday: Street Tree Selection for Habitat and Tree Health

First Fridays are held on the first Friday of every month (except July) from 12-1 pm via Zoom. Join Marion SWCD staff and subject matter experts to learn something new about soil and water conservation and a wide array of related topics.

Salem Urban Forester Milan Davis will talk about planting native trees, the preferred species to use, and some of the challenges in nursery availability and soil deficiency. Milan will also discuss the creation of corridors of native trees to allow birds and wildlife access to the Willamette River and to our larger natural areas.

Part of Milan’s talk will delve into the practice of assisted migration – City of Salem plants trees native to the Willamette Valley as well as trees native to California and Eastern Oregon based on similar species that might be more heat tolerant than our Willamette valley natives.
