Slough Sedge

Carex obnupta

Plant Description

Slough sedge is a hardy, attractive, grass-like evergreen sedge that tolerates a wide variety of light levels and moisture regimes. It may be aggressive in moist areas, making it a great option for stabilizing soil along ponds and streams. It is used extensively in bioswales and rain gardens where it can prevent the establishment of invasive species and provide important habitat for birds, insects and amphibians. Native frogs lay their eggs in the emergent vegetation.
