Polystichum munitum
This large clumping evergreen fern is a common site in forests of the Pacific Northwest. It’s an attractive and hardy species for the home landscape, as well. It can be kept smaller by trimming back old foliage, is easily transplanted, and provides year-round shelter for wildlife and amphibians. It’s also incredibly hardy in shade to part sun, tolerates drought and moisture, and grows well in most types of soil.
