Common Camas

Camassia quamash

Common camas is an herbaceous perennial with lovely blue violet flowers that are a nectar source for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.  Slightly smaller than great camas, common camas is native to meadows and oak savannas where it form an azure sea of blooms in spring. It was collected extensively by native people as an important food source. Common camas will form large swaths if allowed to go to seed.
