Douglas-fir is a large, fast growing evergreen conifer that is highly valued for lumber and Christmas trees as well as wildlife habitat. It is the state tree of Oregon. Doug-firs can live for over 1000 years and develop thick bark that enables them to survive moderate fire. It is common in forests all around the Pacific Northwest.
