Great Camas (purple)

Camassia leichtlinii ssp suksdorfii

Herbaceous perennial with stalks of star-like flowers ranging in color from dark blue-violet to creamy white in spring. Grows from a bulb which, with common camas, was collected as an important food source for native people of the Willamette Valley. They can form large colonies in dappled light if allowed to go to seed. Forms a beautiful sea of blue/purple in oak savannahs and oak woodlands.
