Calocedrus decurrens
Incense cedar is an attractively shaped conifer with dense foliage, often used in home landscapes. The wood has pleasant odor and resists decay. It is smaller, slower growing, and more drought tolerant than Western red cedar, making it a better option for small yards and gardens. The branches are flattened vertically, appearing fan-like, and the bark is reddish brown and broken into scales in young trees turning into fibrous ridges with age.
