Willamette Valley Ponderosa Pine

Pinus ponderosa

Large, attractive, open-canopy pine tree with long needles in clusters of 3. Popular for its straight growth habit and scales of red-colored bark with a vanilla fragrance. Open, pyrimidal crown casts light (not dense) shade. While many people are familiar with this species in the dry forests on the east side of the Cascades, this variety is native to Willamette Valley and can tolerate both drought and wetter conditions common in the valley.
