This wood-boring beetle is
smaller than a penny – only
0.33 to 0.5 inches in length.
Metallic green adults emerge
from D-shaped holes May –
June and are active through
summer. Various similar-looking
species exist.
The larvae eat the inner bark
of ash trees (Fraxinus spp.),
which kills them. The loss of
Oregon’s ash trees will have
economic and environmental
impacts. Ash are long-lived
trees that play an important
role in shading waterways.
